ADSL: type of high-speed Internet connection
AFK: "Away From Keyboard" indicating that player leaving computer for indefinite time period
Agro: An abbreviation referring to an aggressive monster
Agro range: The range within which an aggessive monster will notice a player and attack
Avatar: A player's character in the game
BAF: "Bringing a Friend" indicating that a monster opponent has attracted another aggressive opponent
BF: "Boyfriend"
BBL: "Be Back Later"
BIO: Acronym indicating that player is taking a bathroom break
BRB: "Be Right Back" Indicates to other players that the player character will return to the group shortly
Broadband: High-speed home Internet connection (e.g. DSL, cable, etc)
BRT: "Be Right There"
BTW: "By the Way"
Buddy list: List of friends kept by player in EverQuest II
Buff or Buffing: Preparatory actions taken to combat, such as casting beneficial spells
Camp: The repeated killing of a respawning monster by the same player to gain experience or items. Or this can mean that a player is leaving the game by using the Camp command.
CU or Cya: "See You Later"
Dewd or Leet Speak: An abbreviated chat code used by some players
Ding: An annoucement letting players know that they have been leveled
DNS: "Domain Name System" A system translating a domain name into an Internet Protocol address
DoT: "Damage Over Time" refers to an effect applied to a target, causing continuous damage over a limited period of time
Drop: The "giving up" of items or money by a defeated foe
Emote: A feature used to express emotions through physical animations on MMOG player-characters
EP, Exp or XP: "Experience Points"
EQ: Acronym for EverQuest
FAQ: "Frequently Asked Questions" A part of a website providing answers to commonly questions that a visitor might have
Flame or Flaming: Act of harshly rebutting someone, usually on message boards.
FPS: "First Person Shooter" A combat game player from a first-person point of view. Example: PlanetSide

FYI: "For Your Information"
GF: Girlfriend
GM: Game Master. Customer service representative who helps facilitate gameplay by resolving player issues
Grief Player or Griefer: A player who purposefully seeks to ruin the enjoyment of other gameplayers
GTG or G2G: "Good to Go"
Guild: Formal player association formed in EQ II that grants members additional game features such as a guild chat channel
HDD: Hard Disk Drive
Hehe: An expression of mild amusement
Host: A computer with two-way access to other computers on the Internet
ICS: Intenet Connection Sharing
IMO or IMHO: "In My (Humble) Opinion"
INC: Incoming! Warning that an enemy is heading your way
IP address: Internet Protocol Address is the method which information is sent from one computer to another via the Internet. The IP address is the address of the specific computer on the Internet allowing information to be sent to a location.

ISP: Internet Service Provider
J/K or JK: "Just Kidding"
K: "Okay"
KOS: "Kill on sight" A player character that's attacked on sight by a group of NPCs, such as city guards
KS: "Kill Stealing" This is the negative act of taking another player or player-group's prey
Lag: Latency experienced during game play due to Internet traffic, server-side problems, etc
LAN: Local Area Network
Latency: Time delay experienced as data moves across the Internet
LD: "Link Dead" occurs when a player's computer loses its Internet connection
LFG: "Looking for a group to join"
LMAO: Acronym used to express a gut-busting laugh
LOH: "Low on Health" Player announcement that health status is dangerously low. It's also an acronym for a paladin's "Lay on Hands" ability
LOL: "Laugh Out Loud" Acronym expressing amusement
LOM or LOP: "Low on mana" or "Low on power" Indicator that player will need to take a rest
Loot: Verb meaning retrieving items from vanquished foe
Lvl: "Level"
MAC: "Media Access Control address" A unique number assigned to computer hardware on a network
MMOG: Massively Multiplayer Online Game
MMORPG: Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game
MOB: "Mobile Object" A term used to describe NPC game creatures
MOO: Acronym for Internet game meanign MUD, Object Oriented
MUD: Multi-User Dungeon, or Multi-User Dimension. These are usually text-based Internet games
MUSH: Acrony for Internet game, translated as Multi-User Shared Hallucination
NA: Network Adaptor
NAT: Network Address Translation
Newbie: Inexperienced player. Sometimes derogatory.
Ninja loot: Quick looting of fallen NPC's rewards. Sometimes a dishonest act
No Drop: Certain objects that players cannot drop or trade
NP: No Problem
NPC: Non-Player Character. This refers to any game character or monster not controlled by a player
NT: "No text" Used on message boards or in e-mail to indicate that there will be no text following the subject

OMW: "On My Way"
OOC: "Out of Character" A type of in-game player message
OOM or OOP: "Out of mana" and "Out of power" (see prior definition)
OOW: "On our way"
OT: "Off Topic" This is a message board indication that a message's content diverts from current topic
OTM: "On the move" Indicator from group leader announcing intent to move group
Pet: A NPC minion in control of another NPC or another player
Ping: Measurement in miliseconds of time it takes for a data packet to travel from a computer to a server and back via the Internet

Powerleveling: Act of helping a lower level player gain experience at an accelerated rate
Pull: Engaging a NPC in combat; then retreating and luring the NPC to player's group
Puller: A player character who pulls opponents back to the group's location
PvE: Player versus environment. A game where players only battle NPCs and MOBs
PvP: Player versus Player. A game where players are allowed to attack and kill other player characters
PvPer: Player who attacks and kills other player characters, usually with consent
PKer: Player Killer. A negative act where a player kills other player characters at random

RL: "Real Life", meaning a player's life outside the game
ROFL: Rolling on the floor laughing
ROFLMAO: An stronger expression of amusement than ROFL
RUN: Run!
Spam or Spamming: The act of sending annoying repeatedly through an in-game communication channel
Spawn: The regeneration of a creature after it leaves the game world for a time
Suxxors: Dewd Speak expletive meaning "It sucks!"
Tank: A player character that takes the brunt of attacks in battle
Taunt: A melee skill that draw's the enemy's attention away from weaker party members
Tell: A form of direct communicatioin between two players only
Train: A large group of enemies pursuing a player character
Twinking: The act of giving powerful equipment to a lower level character, aiding their level advancement
Twitch: A gameplay style demanding manual dexterity, quick reflexes, and strong user interface familiarity

Uber: A term describing an especially powerful player, association, MOB, etc
USB: Universal Serial Bus. A plug-and-play interface between and computer and add-ons like joysticks
VI: Verant Interactive. The prior name of the game development company that is now Sony Online Entertainment
WAN: Wide Area Network
WB: Welcome Back
WI/FI: Wireless Fidelity. A high-frequency wireless local network
Zone: Refers to a distinct area within EverQuest II, or the act of moving between two areas within the game ("I'm zoning")
